Bernadine J. "Deanie" Machock, , 77, died suddenly Tuesday, February 20, 2018.  She was born and raised in Elyria and was a long-time resident of Cleveland Hts. She was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University, taught in Columbus, was a guidance counselor in Dayton, and retired as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for East Cleveland City Schools. She is survived by her sister, Patricia McBain, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bernadine Machock; brothers, Jack and David; and sister, Regina Miller. She will be remembered in a gathering of friends and family at a later date.

Isabelle Anne Ciarlillo Parsons (nee Caruso), 96, of Madison, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 at Rae-Anne Nursing Home in Geneva. Isabelle was born October 27, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late Anthony and Rose (nee Magistro) Caruso. Isabelle was a Past President of the Fraternal of Eagles in Willoughby and was an avid CB club member in her younger years.  Isabelle is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne (Anthony L.) Stagg; grandson, Anthony W. (Kelly) Stagg; great-granddaughter, Katriona Stagg.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Gus Paul Ciarlillo; second husband, Joseph Howard Parsons; siblings, Marie Benjamin, Ralph Caruso, and Virginia Benjamin.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Victory Lane Assembly of God Church, 7550 Bellflower Road in Mentor with Rev. David Bill officiating.  A calling hour will be held at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service at Noon.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon.

Otto Hantzmann

September 27, 1923 - February 25, 2018

Otto Hantzmann, 94, of Willowick, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on Sunday, February 25, 2018. Otto was born September 27, 1923 in Budapest, Hungary. The eldest of two sons of the late Ference and Etelka (nee Gyongyik) Hanzmann. Otto enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his five grandchildren along with golfing, traveling, and exercising. He was a hardworking person, and retired as a tool and die maker for Cleveland Twist Drill after 33 years of dedicated service. Otto is survived by his wife, Hildegard (nee Otto) Hantzmann; daughters, Iris (Dennis) Giannini, Kim (Michael) Marhefka; five grandchildren, Tara Giannini, Ryan (Stephanie) Giannini, Adam Giannini, Adrian (AJ) Piazza, and Logan (Antonella) Marhefka; and a great-grandson, Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Sandor (Edith, survives) Hanzmann.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a future date.

Burgess A. Root, 78, of Thompson, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at his home. Burgess was born in Cleveland, October 14, 1939, the son of the late Maurice and Viola (nee Cookson) Root.  He graduated from Deming New Lime High School and then served honorably in the US Navy. Burgess lived in Concord Township for many years and was the owner and operato01r of Allen Tool Grinding. He is survived by his wife, Mary (nee Sell) Binns-Root; sons, Brian and Michael Root; step-sons, Jim, Dan, Roger, Stephan, and Kenneth Binns; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Janece Hall; brothers, Wayne and Maurice Root. Burgess was preceded in death by his parents; son, Burgess Root, Jr.; sister, Maureen Fish.

A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Faith Community Church, 5835 State Route 166 West, Rock Creek, Ohio 44084 with Pastor Steven Maugh officiating. A reception will follow.

Otis White

July 5, 1948 - February 20, 2018

Otis A. White, 69, of Eastlake, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 in Lake West Medical Center. Otis was born July 5, 1948 in Falling Rock , WV, the son of the late Augustus and Edna Faye (nee Paxton) White .  After graduation, Otis served in the US Army during the Vietnam War before being Honorably Discharged.  He then worked for ACME Cleveland from 1974 until 1998. He was a very generous person who always thought of others before himself and was a devoted caregiver for both of his parents during their later years.   Through the years he especially enjoyed the time spent fishing with his dad. Otis is survived by his sons, Michael R. (Kristen) White and Craig A. White; granddaughter, Olivia R. White; sisters, Cheryl White and Sharon (Marty) McGeever; brothers, Jeff (Connie) White and Steven White.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Augustus and Edna Faye (nee Paxton) White.

Otis will be laid to rest in the Veterans section of Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland.

Gregori Barks

August 31, 1946 - February 12, 2018

Greg D. Barks, 71, of Mentor, Ohio, passed away on February 12, 2018. He was born August 31, 1946, in Mühlhausen, Germany. He lived in Colorado before moving to Ohio. Greg was an avid fisherman who loved to garden and tell jokes, making friends everywhere he went. He was patient, full of wisdom and honesty. He worked as a Brickmason for The Allied Craftsman Local 16 for over 30 years. Survived by devoted wife, Norma, loving sons, Greg A. and Gary, adoring daughter, Candy, son-in-law, Shannon, Grandcat, Henry and extended family and friends. He was very loved and adored by his family and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Davita Dialysis in Painesville, for your loving care and support.

Dennis J. D'Amico

March 18, 1958 - February 12, 2018

On Monday, February 12, 2018, Dennis D'Amico passed away at the age of 59 in Euclid Hospital. Dennis graduated from Wickliffe High School in 1976.  He is survived by his lifelong companion of 26 years, Jennie Zulijani; sisters, Sharon D'Amico and Diane Hace.  Dennis also leaves behind his best friend black lab, Tukon.  Dennis will also be forever remembered by his nieces and nephew, Kim Aikey, Holly Curtis, and Scott Hace, as well as other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Frances (nee Coughlin) D'Amico.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February, 24, 2018 at 11:00am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1730 Mt. Carmel Drive in Wickliffe. 

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon at a later date.

Shawn M. Atkins, II, age 24, of Eastlake, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 in Mentor. Shawn was born in Chardon, Ohio on August 26, 1993, the son of Shawn and Mary (nee Halerz) Atkins and grew up in Mentor. Shawn is survived by his children, Brooklynn, Damien, and Carson; parents, Mary and Shawn Atkins; sister, Ashley Sarota; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Linda VanFossen; maternal grandfather, Roger Kelleher.  Also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Juanita Kelleher and Joseph Halerz.

A Memorial Gathering will take place on Saturday, February 17, 2018 from 2-5pm at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2300, 37299 Euclid Avenue, Willoughby, Ohio.

Edward J. McGill

October 4, 1949 - February 10, 2018

Edward J. McGill, 68, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Hospice House. Edward was born October 4, 1949 in Painesville, Ohio, the son of the late James J. and Charlotte (nee Call) McGill.  He graduated from Mentor High School in 1967 and attended Tri-C where he received a certificate in landscape design.  From 1968-1972, Edward proudly served in the US Navy before being honorably discharged. He is survived by the love of his life, Donna; sister, Patricia Pryatel of Willoughby; brother, Michael of Mentor; nieces and a nephew. Preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Jeff Johnson; maternal grandparents Frank and Helen Call; paternal grandparents, Edward and Anna McGill.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

A special "thank you" to the ICU staff at Lake West and the wonderful people at Hospice of the Western Reserve.

Jon L. Pasko, age 71, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 in Willoughby. Jon was born in Cleveland on June 2, 1946 the son of the late James and Oralee (nee DeHaven) Pasko.  He graduated from South High School in 1965 and then served in the US Army.  Jon was a proud member of the Laborer's Local #310 and retired from Marous Brothers Construction.  In addition, he was an active member of the Eastlake VFW Post 3863. Jon is survived by his fiance, Lorraine Mangelo; children, Trevor (Gina) Pasko and Dawn (Carl) Siers; step-daughter, Charlene Bryslan; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 niece; 5 nephews. Jon was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Pasko.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 1:00pm, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Jeannes Joynt, 36219 Vine Street, Eastlake, Ohio.

Billy R. Foley, 80, of Leroy Township, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home. Billy was born November 28, 1937 in Bradshaw, W. VA, the son of the late Sam and Rose (nee Nichols) Foley.  He has lived in Leroy Township the past five years and previously resided in Port Orange, FL. Billy was a proud member of the Boilermakers Union Local #1086 and was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed. Billy is survived by his daughter, Rhonda (David) Szuhay; son, Dallas Hawks; grandchildren, Montana & Sierra Szuhay, and Joshua R. and Danielle Fenton; 6 great-grandchildren. Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Foley and his daughter, Lue Ellen Foley.

Olga Esther Pearce, age 73, of Concord passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2018. Olga was born May 19, 1944 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to the late Leonor and Felix Rodriguez. She grew up in North Kingstown, RI and moved to Ohio in 1974 where she worked in daycare, food service, and as an LPN in area nursing homes. She retired in 2010. Olga enjoyed reading, painting, and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jack D. Pearce; children Marie Lemr (Jeffrey Lemr) of Mentor, Dianne Pearce (Alexander Lakatos) of Concord, and Jack D. Pearce Jr. (Chrystel Pearce) of Kailua, Hawaii; grandchildren Joshua Lemr (Jennifer Fielder), Eric Lemr (Katie Bacon), Aleesha Hearn, Kaila Turovsky (Michael Turovsky), Logan Pearce, and Lanie Pearce; great-grandchildren Julie Brzeczkowski (Tyler Brzeczkowski), Maxwell Lemr, Austin Lemr, Jaelon Holliman, and Miquel King; great-great grandchildren Seth Brzeczkowski and Audriana Brzeczkowski; and a large family of sister and brother in-laws and  nieces and nephews, including Nancy Millet, Tom Curtin, and Craig Soltes of New Jersey.  She was preceded in death by her sister Connie Mae Soltes (Joe Soltes).

William J. Powalski, 79yoa, of Mayfield Heights, Ohio left this world to be with his Lord in heaven on January 22, 2018 surrounded by his loving wife, kids, and grandkids.  When he arrived in heaven, in jeans and flannel, he was greeted by his parents and siblings who have passed before him. He will be remembered as an amazing, giving man with a most sincere soul. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and church member.  He was a compassionate man and well respected.  He touched more lives than a mind can comprehend.  William “Bill” Powalski was born June 22, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Edward and Helen (Brzezowski) Powalski. He married Barbara Hamilton on May 6, 1961 at St. Felicitas Church in Euclid, Ohio. She resides in Mayfield Heights. They have three children – Cheryl Orians (Dale) of Highland Heights, William Powalski Jr. (Joy) of Eastlake, Karen Sutyak (Daniel) of Solon.  He has two sisters, Carol Kaminski (Ray,dec) and Gail Rhodes (Al).  Preceding him in death are a brother David Powalski and sister Virginia Farone (Carl).  He has 9 grandchildren, Kayla Vitale (George Relic), Ryan Vitale (Julia Lucarelli), Alycia Vitale, Lisa Ruggiero (Matthew), William Powalski III, Megan Powalski, Daniel Sutyak, Mitchell Sutyak and Hallie Sutyak, 3 step-grandchildren Nicole, Riley and Taylor, 2 great-grandchildren Nathan and Bria, 2 step-great-grandchildren River, Sofia and many nieces and nephews. A 1956 graduate of Collinwood High School, he went to work for Sinclair Oil running his own gas/service station, where he enjoyed working on cars as well as racing them.  He went on to work at Nook Industries where he retired.  He loved being with his family and was always present at family gatherings, cherishing his time with his family and playing cards.  After Poker games he would throw the change in the air and the children would gain his riches.  He loved the casino’s and was especially skilled at Crap’s.  He loved to jitterbug and polka which he often showed his skills at weddings and anywhere a band would play 50’s music. This earned him the nickname “Greasy Feet”. 

A man of faith, he was a member of the Church of St. Clare.  A private memorial service was held at his home for family members.

Francis Meyer (Frank), age 77, of Cleveland, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 20th, 2018, from Fairview Hospital. Frank was born in Queens, New York on April 7, 1940, sibling of 7, lived in Cleveland and Warren most of his life. He spent a few years in the Navy before being discharged. He worked his whole life until he was unable to climb a ladder with HVAC. Outside of his work he was a member of the Republican groups attending meetings. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, was an active member of a league for years, also riding his motorcycle all over town.

Married the love of his life the late Lillian Meyer-Lundin. Devoted father of Lillian Cagnetti (nee Meyer), Step father of Carl Lundin (nee Richmond), Wonderful grandfather to Halie Meyer, Gideon and Gabriel Lundin, Christan, Shane, Kyra and Angel Noch, Wonderful great grandfather to Alivia Parks. Cousin to many, Uncle to many.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4260 Rocky River Dr., Cleveland, OH date and time to be announced.

Michael Carmen Rossi, age 61, of Mentor passed away suddenly Saturday, January 13. Born May 30,1956 in Sharon, PA, Michael was a graduate of Sharon High School and Clarion University. He was an avid football fan who played in high school and college.  His career in Cleveland OH was in the wholesale floral industry where he worked in sales and management for over 35 years. 

Beloved husband of Diane Skipper, he is survived by Diane, his mother Mickey (Mae) Rossi, brothers James (Jeanne) and John (Cheryl), mother-in-law Carolee Skipper, brothers-in-law David, Tom (Rose) Skipper, sister-in-law Cathy (Chris) Stzempka and many adored nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Carmen Rossi and many beloved aunts and uncles.  

Michael was a beautiful soul who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. He will be deeply missed by his family and a legion of life-long friends. 

A celebration of his life will be held from 11:30-3:00 Saturday, January 27 at LaMalfa Banquet Hall, 5783 Heisley Rd, Mentor, OH 44060. An informal tribute will begin at noon with luncheon to follow. We welcome flowers or contributions to your local humane society or the American Heart Association

Richard D. Carolus, 66, of Perry, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at TriPoint Medical Center. Richard was born June 12, 1951 in Erie, PA, the son of the late Richard and Eleanor (nee Parker) Carolus.  He has been a resident of Perry for the past 25 years and retired from Lakeland Community College after more than 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (nee Brandt); children, Scott Carolus and Tracy Morrow; granddaughter, Alexis Morrow; brother, Russell Carolus; sisters, Donna Pietrantozzi and Debby Agrippa.

Dorothea J. "Dottie" Zupan (nee Lendon) retired RN, 91, formerly of Middleburgh Heights, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at AlterCare in Mentor. Dottie was born August 20, 1926 in Morristown, OH, the cherished daughter of the late Wilbur F. and Mary Elizabeth (nee Urwin) Lendon, Sr. She is the beloved wife of 69 years to Stanley G. Zupan; dear mother of Jeff (Lori), Mary Piovarchy (Gerard-dec.), Richard (Doreen), and the late Jean Zupan (Daniel Suter-survives); loving sister of Jesse Smyth (Warren-dec.), Martha, and George (Candy). Preceded in death by siblings, Della Miller (Otho), Gertrude, Wilbur, Jr., James (Barbara).

Graveside Service will be held in Woodvale Cemetery in Middleburgh Heights at 2:30pm, Friday, January 19, 2018.

Loretta B. Hopper, age 86, of Sullivan, Ohio formerly a long-time resident of Avon, Ohio peacefully went to heaven on January 9, 2018.  Lorretta was born on June 9, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio.  Loretta married the love of her life, Thurl D. Hopper in 1951. Loretta was dedicated to her Catholic churches and schools.  She worked as a Reading, Assistant Teacher at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conceptions of Avon, Ohio for many years. She has spent most of the recent years as a devoted member to St. Edwards of Ashland, Ohio Loretta was a devoted and loving mother.  She was very proud of her family and was excited to become an "Omah" to her 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren to spoil them with endless unconditional love and candy.  Loretta loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.  She loved planning for company in her home; she would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company and baked thousands of Christmas Cookies to pass on to anyone who knew her.
Loretta enjoyed the simple moments of life by tending to her flowers, taking long walks with her husband and time in the sun and nature at her and Thurl’s camper and “second home” at Clar-Mar Lakes Campground.   She was known for her big heart.  She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed beyond measure. Loretta is daughter to Edmond and Babetta Soeder, is the beloved wife to Thurl D. Hopper. She is proceeded in death by sisters, Alma Glovan and Rita McCune and great-granddaughters Glory Vinci and Savannah Carnie.  Loretta is devoted mother of DeWayne (Kathy) Hopper, Cheryl (Phillip) Sikora, Debra (James) Wine, loving "Omah" to Rose (Charles) Vinci, Adam Hopper, Janet Hovanitz, Brandy (Clifford) Burkett, Stephanie (Bobby) Carnie, Christa Wine, great-grandma to London Carnie, Heath Carnie, Chloe Burkett, Bodhi Vinci, and Lucas Burkett.

Family and friends will gather at St. Edwards Church, 501 Cottage St., Ashland, Ohio on Saturday, January 13th at 11:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass done by Fr. Rod Kreidler, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at St. Edwards.

Joseph Jukiewicz

Joseph P. Jukiewicz, 58, of Mentor, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the home of his sister. For the past 20 years, Joe has given back to many and was always willing to help and give to others.  He was a very active member of AA.

Joe loved his family, his motorcycle, and his cat, Allie and his many friends.   He was a great brother, uncle and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
