Gary T. Frounfelker
Gary T. Frounfelker
September 9, 1962 - June 11, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary T. Frounfelker. He will be remembered for his exceptional ability to connect with others and positively influence those around him. His kindness, generosity, and steadfast commitment to family, friends, and colleagues distinguished him throughout his life. Gary touched many lives in a meaningful way and leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and a keen sense of humor. Though he was taken by cancer suddenly far too soon, his memory will remain deeply valued by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Gary Frounfelker son of Clinton and Mary Ann Frounfelker leaves behind his mother, Fiancée Cerisse Tucker and his two siblings Janis Ward (Chuck) and Daniel Frounfelker (Sharon).
Gary began his journey in 2017 following a diagnosis of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), recognized as a precursor to leukemia. After undergoing two bone marrow transplants and experiencing over six years of remission, his cancer unfortunately returned in the form of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), an aggressive and treatment-resistant strain. Despite pursuing all available treatments, Gary's condition continued to worsen, and on June 11, 2025, his spirt returned home to God.
Everyone who knew Gary recognized his passion for running. He served as a coach for track, cross country, and hurdles for many years at Normandy, Maple Heights, and the Middle Schools, where he was known to students and faculty as Coach Fronk. His secondary career was as a therapist, where he worked for many years alongside leading professionals in the field, directly assisting individuals in regaining mobility and returning to their daily lives and loved ones. Gary approached his work with commitment, never voicing complaints or expressing regret about dedicating much of his time and energy to helping others.
Gary will be remembered for his genuine compassion for others and his dedicated support for those in need. He made personal sacrifices to ensure the well-being and happiness of all those around him, leaving a legacy of pure honest care and generosity.
In honor of a truly inspirational man A Celebration Of Life will be held on Saturday, July 26 from 12:30 to 2:30 at Walton Hills Church of Christ 7166 Dunham Rd Walton Hills OH 44146.
Frank Giganti
Frank “Butch” Giganti
(1943-2025)
Butch passed away on July 19th, 2025 at his home in Strongsville, Ohio. He is survived by his long time companion, Sharon McFaul, who helped him with some difficult health issues and was his constant caregiver up until his passing. Previously, he was married for many years to Patricia Dzuro Giganti (Deceased). They had two sons; Frank & Jim (Deceased). He has three beautiful granddaughters; Gianna & Salina (Jim & Tish) and Colette (Frank & Sharon). He has a precious great granddaughter Avery, and a great grandson coming soon! (Gianna & Brandon)
He was the youngest of three children born to Vincent Giganti and Marie Giganti (Roberto) from Cleveland Ohio. He was extremely close with his brother Charles “Chuck” Giganti (Deceased), his loving sister-n-law Cherie, and their children; Vince, George, Jimmy and Michael. And of course his devoted sister, Celia Giganti, with whom he spoke daily for so many years.
He served with the Army Reserve / National Guard and often donated blood through the red cross, as he had a rare blood type that helped children with certain cancers.
Butch was a great chef! From the Gold Key Inn & Butchie’s Place to the Alliance of Poles in Slavic Village, to the “infamous” Pasta Alley in Bedford, people would come from all over to eat, drink and enjoy the company of family and friends.
He was known simply as Mr. G, to so many of his son’s friends over the years. He was always quick to offer them food and drink with a few colorful stories mixed in of course!
Perhaps you’ve heard the song, “My Way”, sung by Frank Sinatra. For Butch, it was more like an anthem! Through the ups and downs, the ebbs and flows, the magic and tragic of life, as the song says…
“Let the record show, I took the blows and did it my way”.
Velma Steingart
Our Beloved Matriarch
Velma Stella Cole Steingart
August 3, 1930 – July 13, 2025
Velma Stella Cole Steingart passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, at age 94. She was surrounded by family at the David Simpson Hospice House, Hospice of the Western Reserve, in Cleveland, Ohio. It was a beautiful end to a truly amazing life.
Velma was born on August 3, 1930, in North Bay, Ontario. She was raised in Kirkland Lake alongside her six brothers and sisters. As a young woman, Velma moved to St. Catharines, Ontario, where she worked as a bookkeeper at General Motors and played competitive softball. It was there, at age 18, that she met the love of her life, Frank Steingart Jr. After marrying, a coin toss determined whether they would start their new life together in Buffalo or Cleveland. Cleveland won. They settled in Painesville, Ohio, where they raised their five daughters and became members of the Painesville Church of the Brethren.
Velma and Frank’s relationship is the cornerstone of our family. They were true soulmates. When asked, “Which of your children is your favorite?” Velma, without hesitation, would reply, “My husband.” That unwavering bond set a powerful example of love that ripples through generations. Their partnership was full of laughter, competition, and deep companionship until Frank’s passing in 1991.
People were naturally drawn to Velma; she had a special gift for bringing others together. She drew people in with her energy, wit, and candor. She was always prepared with a quick and witty response. She befriended everyone, even during her final days.
A lifelong love of sports contributed to her competitive nature, which became a defining trait throughout her life. As an athlete, she golfed, bowled, curled, and played softball and hockey. Her skill in these sports led to years of coaching many youth leagues. You could also always count on Velma to have a game on TV, regardless of the season.
Nothing was more important to Velma than family. Her love was unconditional, and her door was always open. Whether you were a child, grandchild, neighbor, or four-legged visitor, you were greeted with snacks, stories, and a listening ear. She made time for everyone, and her home was a place of laughter. She and Frank fostered an environment with family at the forefront, which resulted in a multi-generational legacy with no end in sight.
Velma is survived by her daughters: Brenda (Mike) Dey, Barbara (Kevin) Deighan, Susan (Steven) Bissonnette, and Joanne (Derek) LaDuke; her son-in-law Bill Ward; her sister Gail Hemphill; and her grandchildren: Alissa (Mark) Miller, Erin (John) Siegel, Julie Dey, Jennifer (Robert) Hayden, Michael (Anna) Dey, Kyle (Jessica) Deighan, Evan (Elena) Deighan, Kali (Jon) Portz, Cole, Carter, and Caroline Bissonnette, and Hunter, Olivia, and Grant LaDuke. She also leaves behind 13 adored great-grandchildren and many dear nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Steingart Jr.; her eldest daughter, Cheryl Lynn Ward; her parents Tom and Annie Cole; her brothers: Everett (Leatrice) Cole, Gerald Cole, and Garth Cole; her sisters: Dorothy (Clifford) Pennell and Amy (Bruce) Huston; and her brother-in-law Doug Hemphill.
Velma’s fierce love and strong spirit made others feel welcome and seen. She will be missed more than words can express, and her memory will live on in our family and the friendships she so deeply cherished.
We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers and hospice staff at Vista Springs Quail Highlands and David Simpson Hospice House, all of whom treated Velma attentively and lovingly.
Please join Velma’s family for an open-house celebration of life at Hellriegel’s Inn (1840 Mentor Ave, Painesville, OH 44077) on August 8 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Jack grew up in Harborcreek, PA, helping his mother run a small farmstead, then earned his BS in Engineering at Penn State University. He then served stateside in the US Army, before working as an engineer in St. Mary’s and State College, PA. He moved with his young family in 1965 to Erie to work at Erie Tech, and later worked at Spectrum Control as Vice-President of Engineering until his retirement.
He made time for serving on the Peek’n Peak Ski Patrol, training English Setters for birddog trials and grouse hunting, and teaching (with mixed success) his children and grandchildren to ski, play tennis, and fish. He always supported his children and grandchildren in their interests, and loudly and proudly cheered them on in their figure skating competitions, wrestling matches, basketball games, ballet performances, soccer matches, and scouting awards. He had less fun tutoring them in their high school math, but nevertheless made valiant efforts.
Upon retirement, Jack pursued his greatest passions with a fervor. Crisscrossing the USA with Dinah and his birddog, Maggie, he fished rivers from central PA to the Pacific NW, hunted woodcock from New York to Louisiana, and cooked his catch at their campsites. He made the Colorado Rockies his second home, spending the three winter months skiing the black diamond moguls and the three summer months catching brook trout on flies (especially his own “wingless” Adams) and perfecting his serve on the tennis courts.
After mastering the moguls, Jack and Dinah moved to Mentor, where he continued to work on his serve and started his modeling career, willingly serving as his daughter’s muse in elaborate photoshoots. In his nineties, Jack took up woodcarving, cheesemaking, ukulele, pickle ball, and astrophysics.
We will miss Jack’s enthusiasm for life, deep love of the outdoors, tremendous selflessness, unending curiosity, and especially his ever-present humor.
In lieu of a service, a celebration of Jack’s life is being planned for a later date by the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, whose kind and expert care was greatly appreciated by Jack and his family.

Patricia B. Korcheck
Patricia B. Korcheck (née Bishop) of Mentor, 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, with her two daughters by her side. She was born in Cleveland on July 12, 1946 to Ralph and Margaret Bishop (née Segreto) and graduated from Hoban Dominican High School. She attended St. John College where she earned an education degree in 1967. In 1970, Pat met the love of her life, Pete, at a Halloween party while both were graduate students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The story goes that Pete asked her to marry him four days later on his birthday but she said, “not yet.” They were engaged a few months later on Valentine’s Day and said “YES” on April 8, 1972, remaining devoted to one another for 30 years until Pete’s death in 2002.
Pat began her teaching career in Illinois and also taught in the Cleveland Public Schools. Starting in the 1980s, she taught briefly at Sterling Morton, and later spent many years at Brentmoor Elementary in Mentor. Her students adored her, and even as adults, would lovingly recall their time in her classroom.
Pat had a reverence for nature and wildlife, especially enjoying time at the Holden Arboretum or in her backyard among the “dear deer” and the birds. She was always up for an adventure and had a childlike curiosity, appreciation, and wonder for the world and every human being she met. She loved to talk to virtually everyone, celebrating successes and providing support on bad days, whether you were the grocery store clerk she’d just met, a plumber in her home doing repairs, her new mailman, or one of her many life-long friends. Pat felt deeply connected to the parish of St. Cecilia’s (Cleveland), where she grew up and was later married, and where she continued to be involved until its closing in 2010. A long-time parishioner of St. Mary of the Assumption in Mentor, her faith was unwavering and she continually sought to enhance her spiritual life through volunteer work, retreats, creative pursuits, prayer, and reading, especially Mary Oliver and Thomas Merton. Although she wasn’t Irish, she unabashedly pretended she was, traveling multiple times to Ireland and always yearning to return.
Pat was dearly loved and appreciated by friends from the many worlds she was a part of – her church communities, her neighborhood, her teaching, and her volunteer work. But it was her identity as a mother and grandmother (Gramma or “G-Maw”) that filled her with the greatest joy. For over a decade, she proudly and regularly drove out to Iowa to visit her grandson, making the trip alone and in one day.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell “Pete” Korcheck; parents, Ralph and Margaret Bishop; her brother, Ralph W. Bishop Jr.; and mother-in-law, Antoinette Korcheck. She will be missed forever by her children: Kathy Korcheck Martinek (Jeff) and Marjorie Korcheck (Andrew McKeown) and her beloved grandson, Nikos Martinek. She will also be missed by her granddog, Rosie, and her grandkitty, Peli.
A memorial mass celebrating Pat’s life will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 10 am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Following mass, please join the family for light refreshments and a brief reception. Private interment will take place at Mentor Municipal Cemetery at a later date.
